What is One Book, One Coast?
One Book One Coast is a shared community reading program that celebrates literacy, learning, community, and civil discourse. By connecting readers across three states through one shared title, One Book, One Coast highlights the power of libraries in bringing people together for conversation and reflection.
What are we reading?
We are reading actor/activist/author George Takei’s graphic memoir They Called Us Enemy. This graphic memoir that recounts actor, author, activist George Takei’s childhood imprisoned alongside 120,000 Japanese Americans within U.S. incarceration camps during WWII. Confronting questions of patriotism, family, loyalty, and community, Takei’s graphic memoir examines what it means to be American.
About Quick Reads Book Group:
Quick Reads are books of less than 250 pages. Join us each month on the second Saturday at 11:30 a.m. for lively discussions about diverse titles, authors, topics, and content. This month, we will be reading and discussing They Called Us Enemy by George Takei. Copies are available at the McKinley Library service desk during library hours or through the library catalog. New participants are always welcome!

Located on the Alhambra Blvd side of the McKinley Park, Mckinley Library is housed inside the Clunie Community Center. The Library has a seed library. The non-fiction section is on the second floor that is only accesible via a narrow stairwell. Street parking is available.
