A hands-on workshop about the upcoming Threads of Belonging mural. Experience how textile traditions carry memory, identity, belonging, and resilience-connecting cultures and people in Sacramento
The Threads of Belonging mural features the HMong "house" motif—a symbol of family, memory, and the longing for a sense of “home” felt across the diaspora for a displaced people. In this workshop, we turn locally grown flowers into "flower cloth," grounding "paj ntaub" in their home here, and transforming petals into small appliquéd houses that echo the motif on the mural. Rooted in the communal spirit of paj ntaub, this hands-on session invites us to sit and stitch together slowly—remembering, imagining, making, and re-making what the HMong "house" can hold.
