Valley Hi-North Laguna Meeting RoomA hands-on workshop about the upcoming Threads of Belonging mural. Experience how textile traditions carry memory, identity, belonging, and resilience-connecting cultures and people in Sacramento.
Workshop 3: Magic and Healing in Palestine
The "Magic and Healing in Palestine" workshop introduces the history and meaning of Palestinian amulets, guided by the writings of Tawfiq Canaan. Participants will explore the medicinal, protective, and spiritual qualities embedded in traditional objects and materials across Palestinian history. The session then shifts into a hands-on experience, where attendees learn foundational tatreez embroidery techniques. Using ingredients such as bay leaves, alum, miswak, and aromatic spices, participants will craft their own hanging Palestinian amulet. By the end of the workshop, each person will leave with a deeper understanding of cultural symbolism and a handmade object rooted in ancestral practice.
