Classics Reading Group
1984
Saturday, October 12
11:00am - 12:30pm
Read classic books slowly and meet to discuss the scheduled reading along the way.
George Orwell's final book, Nineteen Eighty-Four (a.k.a. 1984) was published in 1949. The dystopian novel examines totalitarianism, surveillance, and freedom of expression, and is responsible for bringing into our lexicon terms like "Big Brother," "Thought Police," and "2 + 2 = 5."
The Classics Reading Group will read the book in three parts and will meet to discuss each section:
· September 14: Part One
· September 28: Part Two
· October 12: Part Three & Appendix
This is a "hybrid" program that meets both in-person at the McClatchy Library and virtually on Zoom. Registration is not required to attend in person; but is required for Zoom. Please register for Zoom codes.
